WINTER TERM AT THE MENAGERIE!
Menagerie art classes seek to develop imagination and creative design thinking alongside foundational art skills.
WEEK 1 / HALLOWEEN SPOOOOKTACULAR!
To celebrate spooky season we start the term by making an animation inspired by Czech animator Jan Švankmajer.
BLOCK 2 / TONAL DRAWING
Next we will spend a few weeks working on tonal drawing through a range of exercises to help build skills in describing light and shade. We will look at work by the German expressionist Kathe Kollwitz amongst others.
BLOCK 3 / PRINTING
Over three weeks we will explore a range of artists and approaches that celebrate printmaking techniques, including lino printing and mono printing. Participants will create a festive card design in these sessions which they will print in class and can print more of at home.
BLOCK 4 / FESTIVE PUPPETS
Following our (almost) annual tradition, for the last few weeks of the year we will each make a festive friend thinking about character development, using a variety of different making skills and a pinch of magic! Influences for this to include Oliver Jeffers (younger kids) and The Nightmare Before Christmas (older kids).
