SPRING TERM AT THE MENAGERIE!
Menagerie art classes seek to develop imagination and creative design thinking alongside foundational art skills.
BLOCK 1 / Environmental art inspired by Do Ho Suh
Taking inspiration from South Korean artist Do Ho Suh’s colourful works concerning architecture and memory, students will make sculptural responses. A range of making skills, as well considering texture, form and colour will all be part of this block of working in 3D.
BLOCK 2 / Typography
In this block participants will increase their sensitivity and awareness of fonts and typography through working with and designing their own letter forms. We will be taking in ideas from several experimental graphic designers and type designers.
BLOCK 3 / Colour mixing and landscape painting
Over three weeks students will spend time developing their colour theory knowledge through a series of practical exercises. They will then use this knowledge to consider colour through painting, with a nod to work by Scottish art legend Joan Eardley.
WEEK 10 / Drawing week
For the last week of the term, students will have week to flex their drawing skills, with a spring twist!
